I live in the state of Maine and if you’ve ever spent time in the northeast section of the USA, then you know what our winters are like – long, cold and brutal. My least favorite part about winter isn’t the snow or having to shovel it – it’s that first 15 minutes in the car on the way to work when it’s not really any warmer inside the car than it is outside of it. It’s torture in it’s cruelest form!
Last winter, I finally decided that enough was enough and it was time to do something about this problem. After seeing a friend with a remote starter for their car, I knew I had to have one. How could I not buy one? It would mean another whole winter of starting my daily commute in the freezing cold. After finding out how affordable these types of systems can be, I finally settled on the AutoPage 4 Channel LCD Alarm with Remote Car Starter.
When I bought it, the salesperson asked if we would like it installed too, but my husband (and his pride) stepped up and said there would be no need. I was a bit worried, but decided to let him have a crack at it. Just to be sure, I went back and made sure to take down the number of a service center who could help me get it installed.
When we got home, my husband took out the front console and started tinkering around. I definitely didn’t want to be anywhere in the area when he was working on that, so I went inside for about an hour and could’t believe it when he came in and said it was all set up and ready to go. I could’t believe it, it seemed so quick! He said it was fairly easy to do, but if you were weary of doing advanced jobs on cables and wires yourself, then it is a job better left to the professionals.
I’ve since been using my remote starter everyday that it’s even slightly cold outside – it’s turned me into such a wimp! That’s just fine with me though, because my morning commute is so much more enjoyable in the winter. In fact, when I enter my car, it’s usually a bit warmer than my house! My husband was also able to set it up so that it also controls my heated seats, so those are nice and toasty when I get in too.
The only features I haven’t tested out yet, are the security features. Crime is almost non-existent where we live, so my husband never bothered to set up the security features, much less teach me how to use them. It still locks and unlocks the car, but I don’t know how to use the alarm feature. That being said, after reading a few reviews, it seems to work great for that purpose too, so if you need that functionality too, I would still fully recommend this one.
